Donald cried – Returndramedy by Kris Avedisian, USA 2016

DEN GUDOMLIGA KOMEDIN Posted on 2017-02-02 23:29:36

There’s a very indie feel to Donald cried. Placed in the comedy section of the programme, it fails to deliver as such. The laughs are few and far between. That doesn’t mean that the film is bad, it’s qualities lies more on the downplayed drama. It’s just not that funny.

Funny, lighthearted and well acted. Bening is convincing as the 55 year old mum to a teenage son. Most characters are believable, the story flows well and the pace is just right. There is a certain lack of conflict, though, but the film is still worth a watch or two.

One ticket, please – Playportrait by Matiss Kaza, LAT 2016

SVENSKA PREMIÄRER Posted on 2017-02-02 23:27:45

Documentaries about simple people with a passion for whatever are often cosy and lighthearted, making the audience want to share the subject’s passion, at least to a degree, and at least for a while. But that always hinges on the liveability of the person portrayed, and how well they can convince you about the awesomeness of model trains/bird watching/origami/whathaveyou. As the subject in One ticket please is rather annoying, not relatable at all and don’t really seem to enjoy the theatre, the documentary fails to enthuse, and thus falls flat.
